D'ruth
A study of Redruth using photographs in and around the Town of Redruth which is
located about three miles south of the Heartlands.
Four years ago
Reduth received a grant from the CPR regeneration body which distributed money
from the objective one European Funding.
This is a quote
from the Cornwall Council website
“The
scheme was heritage based and had a strong economic theme in order to secure
long term sustainable benefits. The aims of the scheme were achieved by
awarding targeted grants for quality building repairs (using local materials
and tradesmen and traditional methods, where possible), reinstatement of
architectural detailing and bringing vacant buildings and underused floor-space
back into use.
The scheme linked closely to the Redruth Town Centre Improvements which has seen improvements to key areas of the public realm that will have an influence on private sector investment decisions and public pride. This Redruth HERS was a hugely successful scheme, providing grant aid to 35 properties in the town.”

My aim is to
base my project in around Redruth and photograph the regeneration work that was
carried out and through these photographs. I intend to show if the money used
in this has had the desired effect of attracting private sector investment and if
it has installed a sense of public pride in the people of Redruth.
The photographs
will be of areas that have been improved with the grant money but will also feature
an empty shop boarded up or vandalized in the background.
The aim in the
context of this project is where the regeneration of Redruth has either worked
or failed and the lessons that can be learned for the Heartlands in keeping the
attraction fresh and new with ideas and events that will keep visitors wanting
to return all year round for year.
